NEW YEAR'S EVE

NYE Torchlight Parade

Ring in the New Year with a spectacular torchlight parade down the slopes of Snow Summit. Skiers and snowboarders carry flares down the mountain, followed by fireworks over the lake. December 31st. Free to watch from the base area.

JANUARY

Annual Bald Eagle Count

Join citizen scientists and forest service rangers for the annual midwinter bald eagle survey. Mid-January. Guided eagle watching tours run Dec–Mar from the Big Bear Discovery Center. Wildlife info →

FEBRUARY

Big Bear Film Festival

Independent film festival showcasing short films, documentaries, and features. Multiple screenings at venues around town. Q&As with filmmakers. Late February.

FEBRUARY

Polar Plunge

Brave the freezing waters of Big Bear Lake for charity! Participants jump into icy water to raise money for local causes. Costumes encouraged! February. Fun to watch even if you don't jump.

DECEMBER

Village Tree Lighting & Holiday Events

Kick off the holiday season with the annual tree lighting in the Village! Santa visits, caroling, hot cocoa, holiday shopping, and festive lights throughout December. Early December.

NOV–DEC

Zoo Wild Lights

The Big Bear Alpine Zoo lights up with thousands of holiday lights! Walk through the zoo at night with illuminated animal exhibits and festive displays. November – December. Special admission pricing.

Spring Events (March – May)

APRIL–MAY

Big Bear Grill & Chill

BBQ competition, live music, and craft beer tasting. Teams compete for best ribs, brisket, chicken, and more. Food vendors, kids' activities, and a fun spring kickoff. Late April / Early May.

SPRING

Spring Wildflower Season

The mountain meadows come alive with wildflowers as the snow melts. Great time for photography, hiking, and nature walks. Peak bloom varies by snowpack — typically late April through June.

Summer Events (June – August)

JULY 4TH

4th of July Celebrations

The biggest event of the year! Spectacular fireworks display over Big Bear Lake visible from shore all around the lake. Parade through town, live music, food vendors, and festivities. July 4th. Arrive early for the best spots.

AUGUST

Tour de Big Bear

Scenic road cycling event through the San Bernardino Mountains. Multiple distance options (25, 50, 70, and 100 miles). Challenging climbs with stunning views. August. Registration required.

SUMMER

Concerts in the Village

Free summer concert series at the Big Bear Village. Live music every weekend from June through August. Bring a blanket, grab dinner at a nearby restaurant, and enjoy.

SUMMER

Big Bear Triathlon

Swim-bike-run through one of the most scenic triathlon courses in SoCal. Sprint and Olympic distance options. Beautiful lake swim. Spectators welcome along the course!

Fall Events (September – November)

SEPT–NOV

Oktoberfest 🍺

Big Bear's legendary Oktoberfest! Traditional German-style festival with bratwurst, pretzels, craft beer, live polka bands, dancing, and games. Runs September 6 – November 8 on select weekends. Tickets: $10–$45 depending on package. One of the longest-running Oktoberfests in California!

OCTOBER

Kodiak Ultra Marathon

Ultramarathon through the San Bernardino National Forest. 50K, 50-mile, and 100-mile options. Challenging mountain terrain with massive elevation changes. October. Attracts elite runners from around the world.

OCTOBER

Halloween Events

Trick-or-treating in the Village, haunted houses, costume contests, and fall activities. The Alpine Zoo hosts special Halloween events for kids. Late October.

FALL

Fall Foliage & Harvest Season

Autumn in Big Bear is spectacular! Aspen trees turn gold, oaks turn orange, and the mountain air turns crisp. Best foliage typically mid-October through early November. Great hiking weather with fewer crowds.
