Camping Season

Most campgrounds are open May through October, weather permitting. Some campgrounds accept reservations through Recreation.gov, while others are first-come, first-served. Always check fire restrictions before your trip.

Reservation Tips

  • USFS campgrounds open for reservation 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov
  • Peak season (June–Aug): Book the day reservations open — Serrano sells out fast
  • Shoulder season (May, Sept–Oct): Easier to get spots, beautiful weather, fewer crowds
  • Check-in: Typically 2 PM | Check-out: Typically 12 PM
  • Quiet hours: 10 PM – 6 AM at all USFS campgrounds

Dispersed & Yellow Post Camping

🟡 Yellow Post Sites

Free designated dispersed camping sites scattered throughout the San Bernardino National Forest. Marked with yellow posts. First-come, first-served. No water, no facilities — pack it in, pack it out. Adventure Pass required ($5/day or $30/year).

  • • Camp at least 200 feet from any water source
  • • Use existing fire rings only (when fires are allowed)
  • • Maximum 14-day stay limit
  • • No camping within 1 mile of any developed campground
  • • Leave no trace — pack out all trash

  • • Store all food in bear-proof containers or your vehicle
  • • Never leave food unattended at your campsite
  • • Keep a clean camp — bears are attracted to smells
  • • Don't approach or feed wildlife

  • • Check fire restrictions before building any campfire
  • • Only use designated fire rings when fires are permitted
  • • Never leave a fire unattended
  • • Drown, stir, and feel your campfire before leaving
